Welcome to Construction Services at Moulton College. This subject area covers electrical installation and plumbing. Our courses prepare you to enter the industry on a commercial and household level, and work with both common and emerging technologies.
Construction Services is ideal for students who want hands‑on training in plumbing or electrical installation.
We teach you the industry skills that employers want and the life skills you’ll need to succeed. Preparing you for real work is our key focus, which is why work experience is offered as part of all our courses.
We also include training on sustainable technology such as heat pumps, solar, EV charging and grey water systems so that you’re ready for the modern demands of the job.
The key reasons to study at Moulton College include:
- Industry‑standard workshops for plumbing and electrical training
- Specialist equipment and tools.
- Expert tutors with industry backgrounds and up‑to‑date knowledge.
- Strong employer links offering work experience
- Flexible progression routes so you can move between full‑time study and apprenticeships
- In‑demand career skills across domestic, commercial and renewable industries
We were the first college in the UK to install a low carbon heating engineer test rig so that our students could get hands on with the latest technology.
We offer clear pathways so you can pick an option that suits you best. Most students begin at Level 1 or Level 2, depending on their experience. These courses help you build confidence with tools, safety, basic systems and the core skills you need. You then develop deeper knowledge as you move through the levels.
We also offer the flexibility to start a full-time course before switching to an apprenticeship. This is perfect for students who want to start their career but haven’t found an employer. It means you can start learning with us full-time and receive credit for the work you’ve finished if you find an apprenticeship later.
Careers
Our graduates go on to become plumbers, electricians, installers or building services technicians. You could work in housebuilding, businesses and fast‑growing renewable energy fields.
You will learn through hands‑on training in specialist workshops. Each week includes practical sessions, safety training and theory lessons that build your knowledge.
Assessment includes:
- Practical tasks in the workshop
- Written tasks and online tests
- Coursework and portfolios
- Technical and safety assessments

Construction Services FAQ
Yes! We welcome adult students who want to learn a trade. We offer as much flexibility as possible including part-time study programmes. Many of our Construction Services courses have two intakes per year. This means you can catch up later if you can’t complete any units because of work or family commitments.
You can’t start an apprenticeship without an employer, but you can apply for apprenticeship vacancies without one. This gives you time to look for an employer.
If you haven’t found an employer or you’re unsure which route you’d prefer, we advise applying for both an apprenticeship and one of our full-time courses. If you don’t find an employer in time, you can start the course and switch to an apprenticeship later if you want to.
