Specialist workshops
Our dedicated stonemasonry workshop is the heart of your training. It’s designed to replicate a real stone yard, giving you space to practise, experiment and grow your practical abilities with confidence.
Inside the workshop you’ll find:
- Industry standard stone working tools and equipment, including chisels, mallets, carving tools and machinery used by modern masons
- Banker benches for carving, shaping and precision work
- Areas for letter cutting, conservation tasks and detailed carving
- Safe working zones for handling natural stone, learning tool control and developing fine craftsmanship
This hands on environment lets you work with real stone, building essential skills for both heritage and modern stonemasonry roles.
Technical drawing and design spaces
Alongside practical carving, you’ll learn how to:
- Produce technical and geometric drawings
- Create templates
- Understand how stone components fit within both historic and contemporary structures
- Begin developing digital drawing skills (CAD)
These drawing and design spaces help you understand the planning, accuracy and problem solving needed in professional stonework.
Hands-on learning for apprenticeships
For learners joining the Level 2 Stonemason Apprenticeship, the workshop provides the same high quality training environment used by full time students. Apprentices develop skills in:
- Stone carving
- Producing templates
- Handling and preparing stone
- Working to health and safety standards
Moulton’s facilities also support both day release and block release apprentices, making the training accessible for learners from across the UK.
