When you need a little extra help
Studying at degree level is different – more demanding and more independent. But that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to figure it all out on your own.
At our Higher Education Centre, learning support is a normal part of your student experience, not something you only access when things go wrong.
If you have a registered disability, learning difference, health condition or specific support need, we pride ourselves on helping you to take your next steps with confidence.
There’s no expectation. No pressure. Just the option to talk things through early and make informed decisions.
What university support should actually look like
Higher education comes with new expectations: academic writing, research, referencing, managing competing deadlines and taking more responsibility for your studies.
We help you manage those expectations – without talking down to you or lowering the bar.
This is where studying at Moulton College hits differently.
Here, you’re not referred to an external service or expected to navigate faceless systems. Instead, our HE Learning Support team works directly with you, so advice is rooted in what you’re actually studying.
We deliberately teach in smaller classes too, so your tutors are more accessible. Put it all together and that means:
- no generic workshops that don’t relate to your course
- no being left to chase support yourself
- no explaining your situation multiple times
- help that’s built around your course and your workload
Support starts with a conversation
You don’t need to have everything worked out before you apply.
If you’d like guidance or support – at application stage or later – you can choose to share information about your needs. This allows us to:
- understand your situation
- talk openly about what support may be available
- plan ahead so your studies feel manageable from the start
The decision to disclose is always yours and conversations are handled professionally and sensitively.
Sharing information does not mean support is automatically put in place. Instead, it gives you the chance to ask questions, understand your options and decide what support (if any) would be helpful.
Our role is to provide clear information and advice – you decide what happens next.
What we can help with
Support at this stage isn’t about academic tutoring alone, it’s about putting in place whatever you need to make Moulton College your home from home.
Our academic support services are tailored to the realities of degree level work and can help you:
- understand assignment briefs and marking criteria
- structure essays and reports clearly
- build confidence with academic writing and referencing
- plan your time and manage workload
- prepare for presentations or assessments
We can also support conversations around reasonable adjustments, accommodation, accessibility or campus life, and signpost to other services where appropriate.
Everything is tailored to individual circumstances – there’s no one size fits all approach.
If you have a diagnosed learning difference, disability or long term health condition, specialist support is available.
This includes guidance on:
- reasonable adjustments
- assistive software and strategies
- applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), where appropriate
Support is handled professionally and confidentially, with a focus on enabling you to perform at your best
