What is an HTQ?
HTQs are Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications, sitting between A levels or T Levels and a full honours degree.
They are:
- developed with employers
- approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE)
- quality marked to show they meet national occupational standards
That means the skills you learn are the ones being actively used in the workplace, not just taught in theory.
HTQs typically take one to two years to complete full time, with part time options available.
Why choose an HTQ?
HTQs are ideal if you want:
- higher education that leads directly to skilled employment more quickly
- a shorter, more focused route than a traditional degree
- learning shaped by real industry expectations
Because employers are involved in designing HTQs, they give you job ready skills with immediate value.
HTQs are also eligible for student finance on the same basis as degrees, and in some cases employers may contribute towards fees.
