Carpentry and Joinery students have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College. Our state-of-the-art workshops are equipped with specialist tools and resources for a wide range of creative craft subjects. We are able to offer you the opportunity to develop your skill set to the highest level and prepare you for your future career.
Guided by our specialist staff and expert guest lecturers you’ll develop your skills in joint making, use portable power tools and second fix carpentry work. Through our strong industry links you will also have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities including site visits and take part in competitions to hone your skills on a world stage.
This course develops more detailed knowledge and skills to support more complex activities in carpentry and joinery. These range from transferring levels to constructing traditional roofs. The course also includes consideration of environmental issues and aspects of planning and managing the construction process. You will cover modules including:
- Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work - Gaining an understanding of different materials used in modern building and communicating with others.
- Carry out first fix roofing and stairs - How to erect and install complex roofing components and staircases with turns.
- Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings - How to install rebated double doors and ironmongery. In addition, how to install curved and raked mouldings.
- Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery - How to maintain and set up a range of portable machinery, and how to use these safely and effectively.
