Our Level 2 Diploma in Furniture Making is designed to take your woodworking skills to the next level by developing your practical skills in design.
If you are passionate about creating bespoke pieces of furniture from scratch, then this is the course for you.
Furniture Studies students have access to an exciting range of specialist resources at the College. Our state-of-the-art workshops are equipped with specialist tools and resources for a wide range of creative craft subjects.
Guided by our specialist staff and expert guest lecturers you’ll develop your skills in both wood machining and hand-crafting furniture, to equip you for employment or further study.
Guided by our expert lecturers you will learn how to make beautiful, hand-crafted wooden furniture using a variety of tools and technologies.
You will cover modules including:
- Consolidating and applying a knowledge and understanding of health and safety within furniture making environments.
- Consolidating a knowledge and understanding of timber technology to enable sound judgements when working within the timber trade.
- Developing a knowledge and understanding of furniture construction methods to support furniture design and manufacturing processes.
- Developing the ITC skills and techniques required to produce basic geometric, pictorial and working drawings using computer programs.
- Developing the hand skills and techniques required to produce intermediate geometric, pictorial and working drawings.
- Developing a knowledge of the furniture design process and utilising (implementing) this to design basic furniture items.
- Manufacturing a range of intermediate items of furniture, using a range of hardwoods, fixtures and fittings.
- Making and attaching a range of doors, drawers and fittings.
