At Moulton College, you’ll learn in a friendly environment where tutors get to know you as an individual. Many of our lecturers have run their own floristry businesses and hold top industry qualifications. They bring real experience into every lesson, showing you the standards needed to succeed in the floristry industry.
You will train in our purpose built floristry studio, which includes preparation areas, specialist cold storage and a photography space. These facilities help you work with flowers in a professional setting. You’ll also benefit from links with our horticulture team and have access to our cut flower garden and ornamental grounds.
Learning is hands-on and varied. You’ll take part in competitions, work on live briefs and create designs for real events, including weddings and corporate functions. This gives you experience of working to client needs and deadlines.
You’ll explore the full creative process, from initial ideas, pantones and mood boards through to final designs. Alongside this, you’ll develop customer service and business skills, helping you understand how to succeed commercially.

Our floristry courses offer clear progression from Level 1 through to Level 3, allowing you to build your skills step by step.
At Level 1, you’ll develop basic floristry techniques, learn how to care for flowers and build confidence.
At Level 2, you’ll expand your practical skills, exploring design techniques, colour theory and the principles behind professional arrangements. You’ll also begin to develop your understanding of plant maintenance and conditions.
At Level 3, you’ll refine your design style and work on more complex projects, including event work and commercial briefs. You’ll explore advanced techniques, business planning and the wider floristry industry, preparing you for work or self-employment.
Throughout your course, you’ll gain experience working with seasonal materials and live projects, helping you build a strong portfolio.
Career options are varied and include wedding florist, retail florist, floral designer, event stylist, wholesaler or running your own business. You may also progress into related areas such as horticulture, retail or design.

You’ll also take part in competitions, trips and industry related activities. Through our strong employer links, you’ll have chances to visit industry events such as FleurEx and work with local suppliers.
Alongside your creative work, you’ll develop key skills such as communication, organisation and customer service, which are important in any floristry career.

Floristry can lead to a wide range of careers across creative, retail and horticulture sectors. You could become a wedding or event florist, floral designer, production florist or work in retail as a sales assistant, nursery florist or garden centre specialist.
There are also opportunities in horticulture and the wider industry, including roles such as landscaper, grounds person, plant area manager, horticultural worker or sustainability officer. You could also progress into specialist or academic roles such as florist lecturer, researcher or designer.
