Agriculture

At Moulton College, you’ll learn on a real working farm that is used for teaching every day. Our 1,000-acre site gives you the chance to work with both livestock and arable systems. You’ll gain experience with tasks such as lambing, livestock management and crop production, building practical skills from the very start.

Our facilities include a flock of over 500 sheep, beef cattle herds and modern machinery. Everything is run to industry standards, so you learn the skills employers expect. We continue to invest in the farm, including data‑recording technology, sustainable farming methods and environmental schemes that balance food production with land management.

You’ll also have access to laboratories, workshops and specialist equipment, supporting both practical and scientific learning. From tractor driving to soil analysis, you’ll develop a broad and relevant skill set.

Our tutors are experienced professionals who know the local industry well. We also work closely with employers across the sector to keep the course relevant and up to date. There is a strong community feel at Moulton College too, with links to local Young Farmers groups and plenty of chances to take part in events, competitions and wider college life.

 

There are clear routes into agriculture at Moulton College, whatever your starting point.

Level 1 gives you a foundation in land‑based studies. You’ll build confidence and develop basic practical skills.

Level 2 focuses on key agricultural techniques, including livestock care, crop production and essential theory.

Level 3, the T Level in Agriculture, Land Management and Production, allows you to specialise in livestock or crop pathways. These courses combine classroom learning with industry placements, giving you valuable experience in real farm settings.

Throughout your studies, you can also work towards additional industry qualifications and “tickets” that help you stand out to employers. We also offer a Level 4 assistant farm manager apprenticeship, ideal if you want to earn while you learn.

Career options in agriculture are wide and varied. You could become a farm worker, farm manager, agronomist, livestock specialist or agricultural engineer. There are also opportunities in sustainability, environmental management and agri‑tech.

As the agriculture sector continues to grow and adapt, you will be well prepared to explore different career paths or progress into further study.

Learning at Moulton College is practical, active and based on real farm work.

Around 60% of the course is hands‑on, with the remaining 40% focused on theory. This helps you understand both the practical and scientific sides of modern agriculture.

You’ll take part in a wide range of activities, including livestock care, machinery use and crop work. Students often join in with daily farm routines, with chances to take responsibility through rotas and team tasks.

You’ll also learn in classrooms, workshops and laboratories, developing knowledge in areas such as soil science, animal health and environmental management.

Work experience is supported through strong employer links. Guest speakers bring insight from across the sector, and you may also take part in events such as Open Farm Sunday, gaining confidence and communication skills.

From your first weeks, you’ll be involved in real farm tasks, including operating machinery in a safe, supported environment. This practical approach helps you build industry‑ready skills and knowledge.
