Apprenticeship Overview
This apprenticeship is the potential start of a rewarding career working with wood in the construction industry, either on a construction site or in a workshop, creating and installing building components.
There are two pathways available at Moulton College:
Site Carpenter
Prepares and installs basic building components including doors, straight staircases, wall and floor units. This also covers erecting structural carpentry and roof structures on a building site or in domestic and commercial premises.
Architectural Joiner
Produces building components by setting out, making out and manufacturing basic architectural products, including doors, windows, and straight staircases and associated ironmongery.
Skills an apprentice will learn
- Planning and carrying out work to commercial standards of quality and speed
- Handling and storing resources such as materials and timber components
- Preparation of the work site
- Use of appropriate tools and equipment
- Working with clients and other construction trades
- Accessing, interpreting and using drawings and specifications to carry out work
- Interpreting and following verbal and written work instructions from trade supervisors and site managers
End Point Assessment Content
Knowledge test, practical test and an interview based on the portfolio.
Qualification Awarded
- Apprenticeship certificate
- Level 1 and/or Level 2 English and maths (if applicable)
